An archaeological watching brief was undertaken across Land 1100 Metres North of Braes Lodge, Foss for the construction of an Electricity Substation, vehicular access track, hardstanding/platform areas, landscaping and associated works. There were no archaeological features, deposits, or artefacts identified during this programme of works. The start of the access track crossed or was in close proximity to the route of the former Military Road (MPK 7326) but no evidence of this was located and it is likely that the route of the current road closely follows and overlies this. Desk based assessment undertaken for the EIA indicated that the general area had supported settlement and use in the prehistoric period but no evidence of this was identified. The development area had very variable topography and bedrock outcropped across the site so it may not have been an area suited to settlement in the past.
