The purpose of the evaluation was to ascertain whether any below ground remains have survived relating to a 19th century sheep yard noted on historic maps in the garden of Gonville cottage, within the museum's grounds. Six trenches were excavated within the garden. Six trenches were excavated within the garden, four of which contained sections of the foundations of the sheep yard. It is believed on the basis of these results that the exterior wall foundations for the whole sheep yard probably survive under the garden and an adjacent stable.
