Maxilla: The maxilla, also referred to as the upper jaw, is another paired bone that forms the central part of the facial skeleton. It has a complex shape and serves multiple functions. The maxilla helps form the base of the nose, the floor of the orbit, the roof of the mouth, and the upper dental arch. It also houses the maxillary sinuses, which are the largest of the paranasal sinuses. The maxilla articulates with various bones, such as the zygomatic, palatine, nasal, lacrimal, frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid bones, as well as its fellow maxilla on the opposite side.
