This report – working at the intersection of intellectual property law and geography – examines copyright and trade mark law rules in their spatial context. It is focused on culture and creativity broadly conceived with an emphasis on the uses of, and interactions with, culture in cities including especially copyright and digitisation of material and city branding. While the copyright implications of both digitisation and circulation of cultural heritage have been, and continue to be, addressed in a large body of literature there is relatively little attention paid to the specific interaction of copyright, and also trademarks in the context of placemaking.
