The rate constants for the iodination of acetophenones have been measured colorimetrically in 1·388(M) aqueous perchloric acid. The value of p, the reaction constant and the resonaρnce interaction energy for the para substituents have also been calculated. A probable transition state consistent with the experimental results has been proposed and evidences are furnished in support of the proposed transition state.
