Abstract

Pachyanthrax circe (Klug, 1832) (Figs 13, 17) Anthrax circe Klug, 1832: pl. 30, fig. 12. Pachyanthrax circe (Klug, 1832): Greathead (1981: 320). Type locality: Upper Egypt [2S in ZMHB]. Distribution. OR: Pakistan. PA: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates. Egyptian localities. Coastal Strip: Borg El?Arab, Mariuot; Eastern Desert: Wadi El-Rehaybi, Wadi Gharaba, Wadi Hoff, Wadi Ibtadi; Sinai: Wadi Garagneyia, Wadi Gedeirat; Upper Egypt:?. Dates of collection. March to August. Diagnosis. Body length: about 9.1 mm, wing length: about 8.6 mm; frons and face with black hairs and yellowish-white scales; frons black in the ground colour; ocellar triangle brownish; scape and pedicel yellowish brown with numerous long black bristly hairs, flagellum dark brown; Scutum and basal half of scutellum black in the ground colour, apical half of scutellum brown; collar brownish-yellow, rest vestiture of thorax yellowish-white; wings hyaline with yellowish basicostal infuscation; legs yellowish-brown, become darker at tarsi, covered with whitish scales especially on middle and hind legs; abdomen black in the ground colour with numerous white hairs mixed with some black ones especially on sides of tergites 2–6; tergites 2–5 with transverse bands of white scales alternated with narrow dark brown ones; tergites 6, 7 densely covered with yellowish-brown and whitish yellow scales. Material examined. 3 ♂ & 1 ♀, Mariout (El-Burg), 18.4.1925 (Efflatoun); 1 ♂, Mariout, 12.4.1913 (Efflatoun); 1 ♀, Wadi El-Rehaybi, 14.4.1930 (Tewfik); 2 ♂, Wadi Gharaba, 14.4.1927 (H.C.E & M.T); 1 ♀, Wadi Ibtadi, 12.4.1927 (H.C.E & M.T); 1 ♂, Wadi Hoff, 14.4.1921 (Tewfik); 1 ♂ Wadi Gedeirat, 26.3.1936 (Efflatoun); preserved in EFC.
