Culicoides subgenus Silvaticulicoides Glukhova 1977: 117 Diagnosis. Modified from Glukhova (1977): Female with eyes narrowly separated by a distance of 1 or 2 facets; sensilla coeloconica (SCo) on antennal segments 1, 9–13; wings gray, densely hairy with macrotrichia over entire surface, patterned with 2–6 small pale spots with or without extra faint pale spots in distal parts of cells r3, m1 and m2; two sclerotized spermathecae with well pronounced necks, a sclerotized ring at the end of the spermathecal duct present. Male: Genitalia with distinct apico-lateral processes on the 9th tergite; broad and tapering aedeagus, parameres short and thick with weakly elongated ends; ventral roots of gonocoxite tapering or elongated; basal membrane of ninth sternite spiculate.
