Key to the species of the Monstera oreophila complex 1a. Spathe pale pink internally, not becoming torn at the base nor reflexed when open; petioles smooth...................... M. mittermeieri 1b. Spathe dark pink or salmon-pink internally; petioles smooth or warty. 2a. Petioles smooth, light green, with persistent sheaths; spathe up to 10 cm longer than the spadix, apparently erect and persistent after anthesis (but frequently herbivorized)................................................................................................................................. Petioles smooth or warty, dark green, with deciduous sheaths; spathe up to 4 cm longer than the spadix, becoming torn at the base and reflexed when open and soon deciduous after anthesis...........................................................................................
