Abstract

Rhipicephalus sanguineus Aitken et al. (1969) recorded R. sanguineus during their survey of arthropods for natural virus infection. Smith (1974) documented R. sanguineus from dogs. This tick is known to transmit Ehrlichia canis (canine ehrlichiosis), Babesia vogeli (canine babesiosis), Hepatozoon canis (canine hepatozoonosis), Rickettsia conorii (tick bite fever in humans) (Jongejan and Uilenberg 2004) and also transmits Wad Medani virus in Sudan, East Africa, Asia and Jamaica (Labuda and Nuttall 2004). Distribution: Cosmopolitan
