Amblyomma geoemydae (Cantor, 1847) This species has been recorded from the Oriental and eastern Palearctic Regions where it is predominantly a parasite of tortoises, although there are occasional records from other reptiles, birds and mammals (Hoogstraal and Aeschlimann 1982; Kakuda et al. 1989; Guglielmone et al. 2014). In continental Southeast Asia, Am. geoemydae has been reported from Cambodia (Kolonin 2009), peninsular Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam (Neumann 1908; Wilson 1966; Hoogstraal et al. 1968b, 1972b; Tanskul et al. 1983; Kolonin 1992; Petney and Keirans 1996b; Robbins & Platt 2011). Frazier and Keirans (1990) consider it likely that this species is distributed on a variety of tortoise and lizard species from India and across Myanmar in addition to its known range. Nadchatram (1960) provides information on rearing this species using Malaysian specimens. The male, female, nymph and larva are described in Voltzit and Keirans (2002) and illustrated in Yamaguti et al. (1971).
