Adherencia al tratamiento antihipertensivo: un reto multidisciplinario

Abstract

Resumen En la actualidad, la hipertensión arterial (HTA) representa uno de los más importantes problemas de salud pública a nivel mundial, con mortalidad y morbilidad muy elevada; siendo el principal factor de riesgo para enfermedad cardiovascular. Sin embargo, la adherencia terapéutica (AT) al tratamiento antihipertensivo continúa siendo deficiente de manera global. A pesar de la elevada frecuencia de este fenómeno y su gran impacto el bienestar de los pacientes y los sistemas de salud, la AT es aún un aspecto relativamente relegado en la práctica clínica. La evidencia epidemiológica actual sobre la AT en la HTA es heterogénea, y parece mostrar tendencias ampliamente variables en distintos grupos poblacionales. No obstante, ha permitido identificar grupos de riesgo elevado para la falta de AT, facilitando la focalización de los esfuerzos de detección de AT deficiente en la práctica clínica. Se requieren más estudios en el futuro para esclarecer en mayor grado los grupos de riesgo para AT deficiente, y el impacto de cada tipo de intervención, en la promoción de la AT a antihipertensivos. Estas actividades pueden dirigirse a los pacientes, el personal médico y los sistemas de salud. El mejoramiento de la AT demanda la participación de un grupo multidisciplinario de atención en salud constituido por médicos, enfermeras, trabajadores sociales, educadores de salud, farmaceutas, psicólogos y otros componentes.
