Abstract

El origen y desarrollo de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA), como campo de investigación, se encuentran fuertemente vinculados con el estudio de la inteligencia como fenómeno cognitivo. El surgimiento de tales disciplinas guarda una estrecha relación tanto temporal como conceptual. El nacimiento de las ciencias cognitivas según narra Gardner (1985), puede situarse en el año 1956 durante el simposio celebrado en el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts sobre teoría de la información, a tan solo 178 km de donde el mismo año se habría celebrado la famosa conferencia de Dartmouth; evento germen de la IA, donde asistieron pioneros del área tales como John Mc. Carthy1, Marvin Minsky, Allen Newell, Herbert Simon, y Claude Shannon.
