Sancho Panza, Švejk a Ivan Děnisovič

Authors: Hejdánek, Ladislav;

Sancho Panza, Švejk a Ivan Děnisovič

Abstract

Předložený text Uhdeho analýzu kriticky rozvíjí a zpochybňuje, zda je možné zůstat plnohodnotným člověkem bez aktivního budování mezilidských vztahů a úsilí o polidšťování světa. English description: Milan Uhde's 1964 study, titled "Josef Švejk and Ivan Denisovich," analyzes these literary figures as plebeian counterparts to intellectual types who attempt to rectify the world. Both Švejk and Denisovich represent a grassroots reaction to the absurdity of history, with their primary goal being survival and the preservation of basic human dignity within the mechanisms of an alienated power structure. While Švejk evades the machinery of war through cunning and humor, Denisovich faces the tragic reality of the labor camp; yet both defend the values of life only for themselves, without altering the broader course of events. This text critiques and expands upon Uhde's analysis, questioning whether it is possible to remain fully human without actively building interpersonal relationships or striving to humanize the surrounding world. Drawing on Cervantes and Turgenev, the author suggests that an effective faith in truth requires a certain degree of "madness." The era of Švejkian adaptability is thus linked to the waning sincerity and inner strength of modern Don Quixotes.
