Abstract

Cetacea Brisson, 1762: en este orden es aceptada la incorporación de la familia Kogiidae Gill, 1871, para el género Kogiia Gray, 1846 (May-Collado & Agnarsson 2006, McGowen et al. 2020). Por cambio taxonómico fueron aceptadas las especies: Balaenoptera brydei (O. Olsen, 1913), referida como subespecie de B. edeni Anderson, 1878 (Rosel et al. 2021); Inia humboldtiana Pilleri & Gihr, 1977, anteriormente considerada una subespecie de I. geoffrensis (de Blainville, 1817) (Herrera et al. 2017, Cañizales 2020, Emin-Lima et al. 2022); y el binomio Physeter macrocephalus Linnaeus, 1758, como el nombre correcto que sustituye a P. catodon Linnaeus, 1758 (Jefferson et al. 2023). Fueron incluidos nuevos registros para Venezuela de Kogia breviceps (de Blainville, 1838) (May-Collado & Agnarsson 2006, McGowen et al. 2020) y Mesoplodon densirostris (de Blainville, 1817) (ASM 2023). Han sido excluidas cinco especies de cetáceos: Delphinus capensis Gray, 1828, considerada subespecie de D. delphis Linnaeus, 1758 (Cunha et al. 2015); Physeter catodon Linnaeus, 1758, no es considerado un nombre válido (Jefferson et al. 2023); y por ausencia de registros técnicos que confirmen su presencia en Venezuela, Balaenoptera edeni Anderson, 1878, B. physalus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Rosel et al. 2021) y Globicephala melas (Traill, 1809) (ASM 2023).
