Abstract

The development of this study also intends to contribute to amplify the theoretical and methodological knowledge existing in this area, contributing for a better professional skill to assist clients who present this disease. To achieve its purposes, this monograph introduces a discussion about sexuality, containing the definition of some sexual dysfunctions which are included in the diagnostic criteria of official classifications (CID-10, DSM-IV), in order to provide some criterions to distinguish the vaginismus diagnosis. It also includes a brief statement referents the different comprehensions about the vaginismus and the several types of treatment for this sexual dysfunction such as: physiotherapy, medicine and psychology.
