Abstract

INTRODUCCIÓN. La leche materna es el alimento fundamental y principal que la madre puede suministrar a su recién nacido. No existe sustituto alguno en cuanto a la fuente nutricional y valor energético que aporta. La cantidad de leche materna que produce el seno de una mujer puede cambiar de una mujer a otra completamente. Los nutrientes que forman parte de la leche materna emanan de la dieta materna y de las reservas nutricionales de esta. OBJETIVO. Comprender los beneficios de la lactancia materna exclusiva en el neonato. METODOLOGÍA. Consiste en una revisión bibliográfica narrativa fundamentada en artículos científicos. RESULTADOS. El colectivo científico pediátrico considera que la leche materna es perfecta para el desarrollo correcto de los recién nacidos y aconsejan que cuando sea imposible amamantar al infante con la propia leche materna, se acuda a bancos de leche para proveerse de leche pasteurizada de madres donantes. CONCLUSIÓN. La leche materna es el alimento fundamental y principal que la madre puede suministrar a su recién nacido. BACKGROUND. Breast milk is the fundamental and main food that the mother can provide to her newborn. There is no substitute in terms of the nutritional source and energy value it provides. The amount of breast milk a woman’s breast produces can change completely from one woman to another. The nutrients that are part of breast milk emanate from the maternal diet and its nutritional reserves. OBJECTIVE. Understanding the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding in the neonates. METHOD. It consists of a narrative bibliographic review based on scientific articles. RESULT. The pediatric scientific group considers that breast milk is perfect for the correct development of newborns and advises that when it is impossible to breastfeed the infant with one’s own breast milk, one should go to milk banks to obtain pasteurized milk from donor mothers.
