FAIR principles are now integral to handling research data, with ongoing challenges notwithstanding. However, the FAIR Principles, at a high level, are intended to apply to all research objects; both those used in research and those that are research outputs. Here we highlight the efforts around FAIR research software as well as Machine Learning, while emphasising the need for community-led standards and best practices in this area.
