¿Cómo construir una bioeconomía sustentable? Posibles trayectorias y reflexiones sobre los desafíos de la transición

Abstract

El concepto de bioeconomía ha cobrado creciente notoriedad en la última década. Desde el punto de vista empresarial, numerosas compañías desarrollan y adoptan tecnologías cimentadas en recursos biológicos. Desde las políticas públicas, cada vez más países presentan planes estratégicos para el desarrollo de la bioeconomía. No obstante, conviven actualmente una gran diversidad de definiciones, tipologías y escuelas de pensamiento alrededor del significado y alcance del concepto. En este artículo, proponemos una conceptualización integral y de carácter amplio sobre la bioeconomía. Presentamos una categorización respecto a los objetivos subyacentes a una transición de la economía fósil a una basada en el aprovechamiento sostenible de los recursos naturales, y las principales trayectorias tecnológicas actualmente disponibles para este fin. Finalmente, reflexionamos sobre los desafíos que implica la creación de nuevas empresas y cadenas de valor bioeconómicas, aportando al diseño de políticas públicas y estrategias empresariales para la transición.
