El presente articulo estudia el juicio de Maquiavelo sobre Moises, atendiendo fundamentalmente a las menciones del profeta en El Principe y los Discorsi. Maquiavelo interpreta a Moises, a partir de los paralelismos con otros fundadores de estados que permiten atribuir las caracteristicas del uno a los otros y viceversa, como un principe nuevo cuya iniciativa religiosa tiene una funcion politica y que actua sobre el cuerpo social a partir del imperativo de la necessita . Nuestro estudio considera tambien las diferencias entre la correcta accion politica de Moises ( profeta armado que recurre a la violencia obligado por la necesidad) y las limitaciones y defectos de la accion politica de los dos lideres florentinos Savonarola y Piero Soderini.
