I outline in the first section of this paper a new interpretation of Kant´s ideas about aesthetic, which correlates the Kantian Position with several issues in the narrative theory. In a second step some key points of the view taken by Martha Nussbaum about the relation between ethics and literatura are critically analysed. Lastly, I advocate a critical reconstruction of Kant´s central intuitions that allows ascribing literary fiction a fundamental moral function. Two Javier Marias´ novels will serve as illustrative examples.
