Eventos adversos relacionados con procedimientos quirúrgicos

Abstract

Introducción: Los eventos adversos son una fuente importante de morbilidad y mortalidad y son definidos como una lesión o complicación no intencionada que da lugar a una estancia hospitalaria prolongada, a una discapacidad en el momento del alta o a la muerte, causada por la gestión de la asistencia sanitaria y no por la enfermedad subyacente de los pacientes. Los eventos adversos se presentan con mayor incidencia por la práctica inadecuada del personal sanitaria. Objetivo: La presente investigación tiene como objetivo identificar los eventos adversos relacionados con procedimientos quirúrgicos mediante una revisión sistemática. Metodología: Revisión bibliográfica integradora para investigar los estudios sobre eventos adversos reportados en la literatura médica, de servicios de salud y de enfermería. Con esta finalidad se analizó un total de 20 artículos científicos relacionados al tema de estudio en bases de datos como son: SciELO, Medline, Pubmed, Redalyc, Elsevier. Resultados: Los resultados apuntan a que los eventos adversos relacionados a procedimientos quirúrgicos se producen con más frecuencia que otros tipos de eventos adversos, son más a menudo prevenibles y sus consecuencias son más graves. Por lo tanto, los eventos adversos quirúrgicos tienen un impacto importante en la carga de eventos adversos durante las hospitalizaciones. Conclusiones: Los eventos adversos evitables en la atención sanitaria son frecuentes y buscan comprender las condiciones sistémicas en las que se producen los errores, es de vital importancia para mantener la seguridad e integridad de los pacientes, la mejora continua de la calidad y la gestión adecuada de los riesgos basada en protocolos que minimicen el problema.
