Abstract

Internet a bouleversé nos habitudes et fait désormais partie intégrante de nos vies. En dépit de ses nombreux avantages, l’avènement de cette technologie a mené à l’apparition de certaines conséquences découlant de son utilisation. En effet, un nombre préoccupant de personnes montrent des signes de dépendance au monde virtuel et les jeunes de moins de 25 ans semblent particulièrement vulnérables. Cet article met l’accent sur les principales conséquences (1) biologiques, (2) psychologiques et (3) sociales de la cyberdépendance chez les adolescents et les jeunes adultes. Les connaissances actuelles révèlent que les conséquences biologiques, majoritairement indirectes, s’expliqueraient par les mauvaises habitudes de vie adoptées par les cyberdépendants. La cyberdépendance serait également associée au développement et au maintien de nombreux troubles psychologiques et psychiatriques comorbides. Les recherches montrent ensuite de multiples impacts de la cyberdépendance au niveau relationnel, autant sur le plan social, familial, conjugal, professionnel que financier. Malgré le fait que la cyberdépendance ne soit toujours pas répertoriée comme un trouble distinct, les écrits scientifiques reflètent bien l’ampleur de la problématique et les nombreuses conséquences qui peuvent en découler.
