Abstract

Bordetella türleri zorunlu aerop gram negatif kokobasillerdir. Bordetella pertussis boğmacanın etkenidir. Bordetella parapertussis, boğmacaya benzer ancak daha hafif seyirli solunum yolu enfeksiyonlarına neden olur. Bordetella bronhiseptica köpek, tavşan ve domuz gibi hayvanlarda solunum sistemi enfeksiyonlarına yol açar. Bordetella holmesii nadir görünen bir sepsis etkenidir. Bu türler, üreme, biyokimyasal ve antijenik özelliklerine göre farklılık gösterir. Bordetella pertussis dışında, diğerleri özel kültür şartlarına gereksinim duymaz. Boğmacanın insidansı aşı sayesinde her ne kadar azaldıysa da halen endemiktir. Klinik bulgular ile kolaylıkla tanınan boğmacanın kesin tanısı B. pertussis’in izolasyonu ile olur. Kültür için nazofaringeal aspirat sıvısı veya nazofarenks sürüntüleri kullanılır. Tedavide eritromisin, azitromisin veya klaritromisin uygulanır. Korunmada aşı difteri ve tetanos toksoidleri (DBT) ile birlikte kullanır.
