Abstract

L’article [C 4 308], a souligne la predominance de la route pour l’acheminement des personnes, aussi bien que pour le transport des marchandises, et ceci non seulement en France, mais dans tous les pays du monde. Meme si la reduction progressive des ressources en combustible fossile ajoutee aux inquietudes croissantes vis-a-vis de l’accroissement de la teneur en gaz a effet de serre dans l’atmosphere conduisent les responsables politiques a soutenir le developpement de solutions alternatives, la route sera encore longtemps une composante tres lourde des systemes mondiaux de transport. Il est donc essentiel d’obtenir des reseaux routiers le meilleur service, et pour cela : rendre les deplacements aussi confortables que possible ; reduire les consequences dramatiques et economiquement tres lourdes de l’insecurite routiere ; reduire l’impact des infrastructures routieres et de la circulation routiere sur l’environnement. Le choix de caracteristiques geometriques appropriees est un des moyens de repondre a tous ces objectifs. Tel est le theme du present article, qui s’appuie sur les elements introductifs du [C 4 308], et sera complete par un article sur l’equipement de la route, accompagnement essentiel de l’usager dans son cheminement, pour l’aider a bien « comprendre la route » et l’alerter sur toutes les imperfections que les difficultes de sites peuvent imposer a la geometrie ideale.
