Carbohydrates are one of the major groups of organicsubstances on the earth with a simple chemical structurebased on various monosaccharides. They are widespread inplant tissue and can make up about 80% of its dry mass.Recently the pyrolytic characterization of carbohydrates hasgained more and more attention. Analytical pyrolysis hasbeen used extensively to study the structure of those macro-biomolecules and some studies have dealt with the pyrolyticcharacterization of carbohydrates.
