Construyendo un palacio sin reyes

Abstract

La fina lluvia nada usual de los días de junio se ha encarnizado con el centro de Bogotá. En la Plaza de Bolívar, los edificios del poder sudan pequeñas gotas y el olor a piedra mojada recorre el ambiente, excepto el Palacio Liévano, cuya construcción de mampostería y ladrillo al estilo francés no dan lugar sino para que las gotas resbalen. Carlos Dueñas lleva cuatro años trabajando en el Palacio Liévano, admirando el lugar y estudiando los detalles más curiosos de su pasado. Ocupa un cargo administrativo dentro de la secretaría privada del alcalde Gustavo Petro, fue su compañero en el M-19 y cuida su espalda. Se entusiasma al contar que el lugar, que es hoy la sede de la Alcaldía Mayor de Bogotá, fue muchas cosas antes de albergar el poder municipal, entre ellas, una cárcel de mujeres. Pocos saben que la edificación que hoy se extiende desde la calle 10 o Calle del Divorcio, hasta la calle 11 sobre la carrera octava, estaba fraccionada en varias casas, entre ellas la que alquiló la familia Sanz de Santamaría a los virreyes y que era vecina del sitio por el cual la calle lleva su nombre: la cárcel Divorcio, lugar de confinamiento para las prostitutas y la plebe femenina de la antigua Santafé. Paradójico es también que además de vecinos, esta prisión hubiera sido el único lugar seguro para la integridad de la virreina durante la sublevación del 20 de julio
