In response to congressional mandates, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has requested the Cabin Safety Branch at the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) to evaluate evacuation procedures which may include furniture in egress pathways. This encroachments into egress pathways may include lay-down style seating, half or full wall partitions, doors, and wheelchair restraint systems. Participants were requited through a third-party contractor and represented the general flying population. Anthropometric data was collected on for all participants to use in future simulation models. Egress efficiency was evaluated based on egress time across the different conditions of furniture type and encroachment order. Abstract will be revised as the project evolves.
