Abstract

Desde que la humanidad tuvo necesidad de producir alimentos, la agricultura fue una de sus primeras actividades, para desarrollar la agricultura tuvo la imperiosa actividad de buscar el recurso agua, y luego de transportarla, la historia nos cuenta que las primeras civilizaciones tuvieron que transportar el agua en conductos de piedra, pero la importancia del recurso agua no importaba el sacrificio. Actualmente el agua a nivel global es escasa y lo será gradualmente aún más en el futuro, representando una amenaza para la seguridad alimentaria. La agricultura es el sector económico que consume alrededor del 70% del agua utilizada en promedio global y en el Ecuador el agua destinada a la agricultura alcanza hasta un 82% del total de agua utilizada.
