Abstract

Centrado en el contexto de la emergencia de las provincias como nuevas entidades políticas en el espacio rioplatense, a partir de 1820, este artículo trata sobre la participación y representación de la población de la Puna de Jujuy en las comunidades políticas surgentes. Esta región comprende una territorialidad indígena que en ese momento prosiguió el proceso de transformación de súbditos de la República de Indios a ciudadanos de una Nación. El objetivo central es analizar el comportamiento de estos “sujetos políticos indígenas” en ese contexto y responder a las siguientes preguntas: cómo intervinieron, con qué significados, limitaciones y alcances. Para ello se analiza la intervención de estos sujetos en un pleito “jurisdiccional” por el nombramiento del subdelegado con el cabildo de Jujuy (1826-1828), y su participación en las elecciones de 1826. Con base en fuentes oficiales de los Archivos Históricos de Salta y de Jujuy, el estudio reconstruye el funcionamiento político institucional en el que se inserta este espacio político y las prácticas desplegadas en torno a las elecciones de representantes; y se pone en evidencia comportamientos y discursos propios de unos agentes de tradición corporativa en el ámbito público pos- revolucionario de la Independencia.
