Sunscald is a major problem on many shade trees during winters when wide daily temperature fluctuations occur. Various protective materials were tested to determine their effectiveness in preventing rapid temperature changes under alternating sunny and shady conditions. Foylon 7018 and Ross TreeGards were significantly better than the control in preventing a drop in cambial temperature 15-19 minutes after shading.
