Abstract

No terceiro capítulo deste livro, realizo um exercício comparativo entre aquilo que chamei de dois “pacotes vitoriosos” das ciências-e-políticas. Inicialmente, adentro as disputas do final do século XIX e começo do XX em torno da causalidade da, então, lepra, chamando a atenção para uma rede heterogênea de elementos que se associaram para que ela fosse estabilizada como doença altamente contagiosa, unicausal, de contágio direito e de isolamento obrigatório. Em seguida, contrasto aquelas certezas sedimentadas no início do século XX em torno da lepra, com aquelas que estão atualmente mais ou menos estabilizadas em torno da hanseníase, definindo-a como uma doença de baixa contagiosidade, multifatorial, multigênica e com potencial de transmissão em aberto. Com isso, pretendo apontar para a circularidade de certezas do conhecimento científico ao mesmo tempo que destaco seus efeitos menos mutáveis. Ao realizar esse exercício comparativo, este capítulo destaca os eixos de preocupações que se repetem, evidenciando a maneira como as políticas da hanseníase do tempo presente englobam uma história bacilo-centrada.
