
La hiperglucemia en el embarazo afecta a 1 de cada 6 embarazos en Latinoamérica, pudiendo deberse a diabetes gestacional o a diabetes preexistente. No se cuenta con información sobre la incidencia de hiperglucemia en el embarazo en Bolivia. En la revisión de 154 pacientes en el Hospital México de Sacaba en Cochabamba, Bolivia, se encontró que el 69.4% contaba con alguna medición de glucemia en ayuno reportada en la tarjeta prenatal, correspondiendo 13.1% a diabetes gestacional, 4.7% con criterio de diabetes preexistente no diagnosticada. En ninguna paciente se realizó curva de tolerancia oral a la glucosa.
