
This article focuses on the emergence and development of ethnolinguistics as a scientific discipline. It outlines the main postulates and traces the development of several schools and directions within Slavic ethnolinguistics. The article also highlights the distinction between ethnolinguistics and linguoculturology and draws comparisons with Anglo-American research in this field, particularly North American linguistic anthropology.
