Tamizaje neonatal de cardiopatías congénitas críticas en el Perú: un llamado de urgencia

Abstract

Las cardiopatías congénitas son las malformaciones congénitas más frecuentes a nivel mundial y representan una de las principales causas de muerte neonatal, además de requerir el uso importante de recursos humanos y financieros para los sistemas de salud. El presente documento tiene como finalidad respaldar la implementación del tamizaje neonatal de cardiopatías congénitas críticas usando la oximetría de pulso de acuerdo a las diferentes altitudes geográficas en el Perú. Esta tecnología es ampliamente usada a nivel mundial, tiene moderada sensibilidad, pero excelente especificidad y costo-efectividad. En muchas latitudes ha llevado a una mejor sobrevivencia en este grupo de pacientes, así como en la población neonatal en general, ya que su uso detecta tempranamente sepsis, neumonías y otros problemas que afectan la oxigenación del neonato. El tamizaje neonatal de cardiopatías congénitas críticas es aplicable en todos los niveles de atención de salud a nivel nacional y su implementación urgente a nivel nacional es una prioridad para mejorar la salud neonatal.
