Ates, insanlik tarihinin en onemli unsurlarindan biri olmustur. Yapilan calismalar, turumuzun atalarinin ve kuzenlerinin atese hukmedisi sayesinde cok farkli evrimsel patikalara girdigini gostermektedir.
