Autoritarismus und Demokratie

Abstract

Autoritarismus und Demokratie untersucht die vorherrschenden politischen Ordnungsformen in unserer globalisierten Moderne in zwei Perspektiven: einerseits aus der Sicht der normativen und politischen Theorie und Ideengeschichte, andererseits im Blick einer empirisch gesättigten, vergleichenden politischen Kulturforschung. Dabei werden sowohl grundlegende Klassiker der modernen politischen Theorie (von Hannah Arendt über die Frankfurter Schule bis zu Carl Schmitt) zu Fragen von Autoritarismus und Demokratie rekonstruiert und in Hinsicht auf ihre aktuelle Bedeutung diskutiert, als auch neuere und neueste Theorien zum Gegenstand der Debatte (von Jürgen Habermas und Axel Honneth zu John Rawls). Die Autoren richten ihren Blick insbesondere jenseits eines zu engen Begriffs von demokratischer respektive autoritärer Staatlichkeit. Sie argumentieren statt dessen für eine sozialwissenschaftlich erweiterte und empirisch fundierte Theoriebildung. Diese wird im Rahmen einer vergleichenden politischen Kulturforschung in examplarische Analysen von unterschiedlichen politischen Phänomenen in Deutschland, Europa, im Kontext des Balkan-Konflikts und des Nahen Ostens überführt. Die Fallanalysen zeitigen eine kritische politische Autoritarismusforschung, die auch jeweils spezifische Demokratisierungpotenziale freizulegen sucht. Vor diesem Hintergrund plädiert der Band für eine an Maximen sozialer Gerechtigkeit orientierte, kulturell sensibilisierte kosmopolitische politische Theorie, die auf eine reflexive Demokratisierung der modernen Weltgesellschaft "von unten" zielt.
