The aim of this contribution is to expand the notion of ecosystems deterioration beyond its necessary but limited materialist sense to include the flattening of their perceptive qualities. Defining the ecosystem as a set of complex relationships between the living subjects and the environment, this essay argues that such relationships include immaterial, perceptual ones. Therefore, the essay proposes the landscape narration as a tool to reduce the risk for such qualitative deterioration, acknowledging the human point of view, as well as the one of animals, insects and plants.
