Propriedades físicas e acabamento superficial da madeira de eucalipto termicamente tratada

Abstract

Varios sao os processos industriais que utilizam a aplicacao de calor na madeira, pois a mesma termicamente tratada pode ser muito bem empregada em situacoes que relacionam os tratamentos termicos a finos acabamentos. Este estudo teve por objetivo analisar a madeira de Eucalyptus grandis submetida ao tratamento termico de acordo com suas propriedades fisicas e de acabamento superficial. Para isso, amostras de madeiras foram submetidas aos tratamentos termicos sob diferentes condicoes de temperatura e tempo de permanencia (160 °C-2 h; 180 °C-2 e 4 h; 200 °C-2 h; 215 °C-4 h; e um tratamento controle). Foram determinadas a umidade de equilibrio, a densidade aparente, a densidade basica, a variacao volumetrica e realizados testes de rugosidade e teste de aderencia ao acabamento superficial utilizando-se dois tipos de vernizes (poliuretano e nitrocelulosico). Os tratamentos termicos influenciaram as propriedades fisicas da madeira, proporcionando, para as madeiras tratadas, menores valores de umidade de equilibrio, densidade aparente e variacao volumetrica. Medias inferiores de rugosidade das amostras aplainadas no sentido concordante da gra foram observadas para os tratamentos controle e 215 °C-4 h. Os tratamentos termicos 160 °C-2 h e 215 °C-4 h apresentaram resultados inferiores de aprovacao no ensaio de aderencia ao acabamento superficial para os dois vernizes avaliados.
