Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the activities of the monitoring of the leprosy control program of actions developed during the period from 2010 to 2014 at a School Health Center in Belem, Para, Brazil. Method: This is an operational research with a descriptive quantitative approach. The data collection was performed through the analysis of the books of registry, medical records, individual records and case reports. The sample consisted of 127 notified cases and the data were obtained through a structured instrument of information collection. Results: The disease predominates in the male gender (56.7%), between 16 and 59 years (81.9%), with a low level of schooling (85.1%), the new case detection mode by referral (66.1%), laboratory diagnosis (51.2%), Tuberculoid clinical form (42.5%), Multibacillary operational classification (53.5%), revealing late diagnosis, assessment of the degree of physical incapacity in 93% of cases at the beginning of treatment, where 62.2% were not evaluated at discharge and cure rate of 87.8%. Conclusions: The study showed that the health unit presented different degrees of performance in its disease control activities. Therefore, operational research has proved to be an essential component of knowing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Leprosy Control Program.
