Abstract

RESUMO Durante o crescimento da árvore, é inevitável o desenvolvimento da madeira juvenil, bem como do lenho adulto; contudo, as diferenças entre esses tipos lenhosos proporcionam comportamentos distintos da madeira, quando submetida a processos de beneficiamento. Em espécies de rápido crescimento associadas com práticas silviculturais de ganho volumétrico intenso de madeira, a madeira juvenil é mais frequente; contudo, os índices para quantificar ou demarcar tal tecido lenhoso ainda são divergentes. Alterações são observadas em coníferas e folhosas, com destaque para as propriedades anatômicas, físicas, mecânicas e químicas; além disso, observa-se uma relação entre tais propriedades. Diferenças nas propriedades da madeira juvenil e adulta de folhosas são menos evidentes quando comparadas às coníferas.
