AVL Two-Stroke Diesel Engine

Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">In order to investigate the potential of the small uniflow 2-stroke diesel engine, AVL has designed and developed a 3-cylinder engine of 1 litre capacity.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">The paper describes how the engine concept was established, shows design details and the progress of the development work on the engine test bench.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">The programme was completed with the installation of one prototype engine in a demonstration car for vehicle emission measurements.</div>
