Performance of Fuel-Resistant Elastomers in Alternate Fuels

Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper is a review of the performance of 12 fuel-resistant elastomers in six alternate fuels. For 11 of the elastomers, performance data is drawn from supplier's literature, technical papers and personal communications. In addition, the author has included a new alloy of fluorocarbon and fluorosilicone elastomers. Data is drawn from laboratory tests at the author's company.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">To simplify the task of comparing compounds, the author has established a property profile that allows the specifier to define the requirements of various automotive components, e.g., hoses, diaphragms and seals, when exposed to alternate fuels. The properties of the elastomers are recorded on the property profile, permitting rapid comparisons of one elastomer to another.</div>
