<div class="htmlview paragraph">Lubrication techniques must be upgraded to meet the increased demands on air turbine starters. This paper reviews the evolution of lubrication systems as starter speeds and motoring requirements have increased. The problems related to lubrication are described herein. The necessity for a systems approach to lubrication selection is stressed and several innovative techniques such as the wet pad, clutch-in-engine, and shared engine oil configurations are discussed.</div>
