Freightliner SST Radiator

Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">A new radiator for the Freightliner Class VIII Conventional and COE has been developed by Freightliner Corporation and McCord Heat Transfer Corporation, a subsidiary of Ex-Cell-O Corporation. One of the most important design features of the new radiator is the use of stainless steel for the tanks, hence the name Stainless Steel Tank Radiator or SST Radiator.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">The primary design objectives for the SST Radiator were reduced cost, improved durability and versatility. Versatility was necessary so the radiator could be used in a variety of vehicles and with traditional and cold charge air cooling systems. The selection of configuration and materials played key roles in achieving the objectives.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper will deal with the design, development, testing and production implementation of the Freightliner SST Radiator.</div>
