<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper discusses some of the factors which give rise to the need for continuing surveillance against fatigue in the field of aircraft maintenance. The subject is presented in relation to the limitations of statistically significant data on fatigue producing forces in some areas, and the problem of scatter in fatigue behaviour of structures. Finally, the applications of various non-destructive inspection techniques are discussed.</div>
