Thrust Capacity of Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper presents the progress made in thrust testing of cylindrical roller bearings at Bower Roller Bearing Division.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">Our past experience has proved that cylindrical roller bearings are able to carry substantial thrust loads. Our research testing during the past four to five years has advanced our technology, permitting us to develop a simplified equation for the thrust rating of cylindrical roller bearings. Since temperature must be controlled below the critical temperature of the lubricant for successful performance, the simplified equation gives the relationship between thrust load and speed that will produce an isothermal condition for constant oil flow within reasonable limits.</div>
