Designing Reliability into Jet Transport Hydraulic Systems

Abstract

<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper summarizes current jet hydraulic experience, types and relative frequency of failures encountered, and gives some of the reasons therefor.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">Each major area of system design is then analyzed to indicate promising avenues of approach to obtain significant improvement in reliability and long-life operation and to reduce the probability of similar failures.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">Specific areas where significant improvements are suggested are: tube line installations, connections, and supports; use of modularization and manifolding; elimination of air, moisture and other contaminants from the fluid through improved ground servicing and continuous removal during flight; improvements in seal design and installation.</div>
