<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper is concerned with various approaches to the problem of providing a sufficient number of correctly spaced transmission gear ratios to meet West Coast truck requirements.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">Particular emphasis is placed on means of simplifying the shifting from the driver’s point of view and, at the same time, decreasing the maintenance problem.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">The author points out that we have not yet achieved the ultimate in this respect with any of the combinations now commonly used.</div></div>
