This book contains information on neurologic diseases, such as trypanosomiasis, that may have propinquity for the torrid (or tropical) zone of the globe. The book also includes descriptions of neurologic disorders having a global distribution, such as Herpes simplex encephalitis. The authors offer excellent summaries of important publications, originally written largely in the English language, for the purpose of availing this information to the Spanish-speaking readership. The book contains profuse illustrations; in addition to the traditional figures of gross and microscopic anatomy, there are striking color photographs of flowers, frogs, snakes, spiders, insects and other natural elements that may be the direct or indirect cause of neurologic disease. A good number of illustrations were contributed by U.S. agencies such as the AFIP and the Museum of Natural History of New York. Dissemination of this information to Spanish-speaking physicians, who, in Latin America, often practice in isolated rural areas, fills a major educational void.
