An economical and effective procedure for the production and maintenance of a laboratory mouse colony is described. It features the use of common and readily available structural materials which can be assembled and dismantled with minimal effort and skill. Ventilation, lighting, sanitation, feeding and watering techniques are described. Ten years of experience with this management procedure has shown that animals of high quality can be produced and maintained at minimal cost.
